Last week, we introduced the 2016 Nissan Sentra. We delved into the different trim options and pricing. This week, we are gonna take a closer look at the technology on the Sentra and just how well it performs on the road.
Nissan wanted to improve what technology options would be available for the Sentra. There are five core safety features that are present on all the trim levels. They include six air bags, traction control, front and rear crumple zones, Bluetooth for phones, and a USB jack. But the real technological advancements come into play on the SV and above trim levels. Those trim levels will also feature a 5 inch color MID, a 5inch center stack color LCD with navigation system, Siri Eyes Free, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, intelligent key and easy fill tire alert. For those not familiar, the intelligent key will allow drivers to press a button on the door handle to unlock the car and then push another button to start. The easy fill tire alert will alert you when you are putting air in your tires. It will chirp when your tire is inflated to the correct pressure. So there is no need to carry a pressure gauge. Finally, the SR or SL trims are the only trims that will offer full range adaptive cruise control and forward emergency braking.
Nissan has a new Nissan Connect infotainment system. This system will work with your smartphone and will include Pandora, iHeartRadio, Facebook, Twitter, Google search, Trip Advisor search, and texting. You will be able to read your timeline on Facebook right from your Sentra’s screen, when the car is in park. Text messages will be provided via voice when your car is in drive.
Siri Eyes Free lets you toggle Siri on a connected iPhone by pressing and holding the steering wheel Talk button. Then as a part of the Nissan Connect, there is the SiriusXM travel services. The SirusXM travel services will help you stay up to date on weather, traffic and fuel prices. The highest level of Nissan Connect, which has Navigation, Mobile Apps, and Services, will include OnStar –like features. There will be automatic collision notification, roadside assistance, stolen vehicle locator, remote door unlock, remote engine start, boundary alerts and speed alerts. There is no doubt that Nissan has thought of just about everything that one would need in their automobile.
When hitting the road, you can expect the Sentra to deliver a smooth driving experience. The CVT engine has a pronounced step mode that acts like a multi-gear transmission and its shifts. If you know someone who is not a fan of CVTs, saying they are problematic, needs to drive the 2016 Nissan Sentra. If you need a vehicle that provides solid transportation, excellent fuel economy, a roomy back seat and several amazing options for technology…the 2016 Nissan Sentra could be just the car for you.
