Giving Hope Foundation Statements

Giving Hope is committed to coming to the aid of those in need. Our efforts reach people of all ages, in our communities and around the world. We believe that everyone deserves to live a healthy, happy life, and we work every day through a variety of endeavors to make this a reality for all.

Giving Hope Retreat Center

Giving Hope is a proud partner of the New Orleans Mission; we continue this relationship with the opening of the Giving HOPE Retreat Center. This partnership will serve the men and women of the New Orleans Mission by providing rescue, recovery and re- engagement into the community for those who have suffered from addiction, trauma, mental illness, and physical or sexual abuse.

The Giving Hope Retreat Center is located on 60 acres of land in Lacombe, LA away from the bustle of the city.  With ten buildings, a swimming pool, basketball courts, and sprawling land it is the ultimate retreat for those looking to start anew.   Future plans also include building a Giving Hope Women’s center to house battered, abused, and trafficked women.

The Giving Hope Retreat Center will provide a refuge away from the conditions of homelessness as well as help these citizens rebuild their lives through training for various trade programs, GED classes, and Lifestyles courses. .  Throughout attendees recovery period support will be provided to fill their lives with hope, purpose, and direction for a new life.

Corporate Hope Day

Volunteering and sponsoring events can help entrepreneurial minds visualize the cause at hand as opposed to solely donating to a cause.  We've found that by serving and witnessing the need at hand, a culture shift occurs within a business group that is truly rewarding. Working with Giving Hope can help corporations to experience the great rewards that come with doing selfless work for those in need.

Hope House

Inspired by extreme lack and horrendous situations for abandoned children, Giving Hope's goal is to finance and build an orphanage on every livable continent. Our volunteers travel to often desolate places to help change the lives of young people who have so much to offer, yet so few resources. Through Hope House, volunteers are blessed with the ability to spend time changing these children’s lives through love and hope. The experience and time granted through these mission trips has undeniably been life-changing for all who have attended.

Hope for a Home

A life changing event filled with heartache and grief sparked a desire to help connect children and families to gain love, hope, and joy – this launched Hope for a Home.  After experiencing the loss of their two sons, the Duhon’s focused on their devotion to God, through this they recognized how precious all of God’s children are.

With their hearts forever changed, the Duhon’s felt the calling to help other children all over the world by assisting other families throughout their adoption process, and so Hope for a Home was created! There are so many families who feel called to adopt but are unable to do so due financial constraints.  Hope for a Home’s mission is to assist these families through the adoption process financially and as an emotional support system.

Food Pantry of New Orleans

The Food Pantry of New Orleans opened in the fall of 2013, in just under two years over 250k hot meals have been served to seniors and the food insecure around the city of New Orleans. Our operation is a full service Food Pantry and Hot Meal distribution center targeting both children and elderly of New Orleans.

Giving Hope is a New Orleans, Louisiana nonprofit dedicated to changing lives through love. Our mission is simple: To give glory to God and to promote human dignity. Through the tireless efforts of our staff, volunteers, and corporate partners, we feed, clothe, house, and provide fellowship to those in need, in our community and around the world.

Giving Hope was founded in 2012 by Troy and Tracy Duhon, what began as a small local non-profit has grown into a nationwide foundation.

In the beginning, Giving Hope focused on feeding the hungry throughout the city of New Orleans by partnering with the New Orleans Mission through ‘service’ days in the city where volunteers went into the community to feed those in need.  The ‘feeding frenzy’ quickly grew when The Food Pantry of New Orleans was opened in October of 2013 in New Orleans East.

Concurrently the Duhon’s were faced with a calling of their own;  through the process of adopting their daughter, Annah, from China in 2013 the Duhon’s felt called to begin helping other children like their daughter around the world, this is where Hope House was born.

Hope House coordinates mission trips on an annual basis to fund and build orphanages around the world. The inaugural trip was held in Hyderabad, India with Honduras following the year after. In the coming year we will be traveling to Africa!

After the adoption of their daughter, with their hearts forever changed, the Duhon’s felt called to help other children all over the world by assisting other families throughout their adoption process, and so Hope for a Home was created! With so many families who feel called to adopt but are unable to do so due to financial constraints.  Hope for a Home’s mission is to assist these families through the adoption process financially and as an emotional support system.

Giving Hope has long partnered with the New Orleans Mission, we to continue this relationship with the opening of the Giving HOPE Retreat Center.   This partnership will serve the men and women of the New Orleans Mission by providing fellowship and freedom.  The Giving Hope Retreat Center will provide a refuge away from the conditions of homelessness as well as help these citizens rebuild their lives through training for various trade positions.

Hope For A Home

"It is not by accident that each of us is here today; but it is for His greater purpose"
– Tracy Duhon

What began as heartache and pain, grew through love and a passion to help others, Hope for a Home was born.  In 2004, Tracy Duhon already a mother of two children, Josh and Abigail, found herself helpless and hurting after giving birth to her second son, Jonathon Joseph, knowing all the while he would not live after being born without kidneys.  Jonathon lived for one hour. Two years later Tracy and Troy gave birth to their third son Joseph Jeremiah, also born without kidneys, Joseph lived for seven hours.  Both boys were born with potter’s syndrome, a very rare disease; it was even rarer that a mother gave birth to two children with the same condition. After having their hearts crushed from the loss of their two sons, the Duhon’s focused on their devotion to God and through this they recognized how precious all of God’s children are. In 2005 the Duhon’s began the process of adopting a baby girl from China.

DONATE

After seven years of waiting and prayers for understanding in God’s plan, Tracy trusted his timing would be perfect.  While the Duhon’s waited anxiously for word of their little girl in China, God simultaneously surprised them with a beautiful girl, Avah Hope Duhon, in December of 2010. Two years later in October of 2012 the Duhon’s traveled to China to hold their baby girl, Annahstasia Grace Duhon, for the very first time.  Now, with four precious children, the Duhon’s credit the adoption of their daughter as one of the greatest things they have ever done, as they were able to place their trust in God’s hands and through that trust, he delivered.   Now, as the Duhon’s reflect on pictures of Annah in the orphanage they are able to attest to the power of family. After seeing Annah and the other children in the orphanage, having her heart forever changed, Tracy felt the calling to help children all over the world by assisting other families throughout their adoption process, and so Hope for a Home was created! With so many families who feel called to adopt but are unable to do so due to financial constraints, Hope for a Home’s mission is to assist these families through the adoption process financially and as an emotional support system. Love is the most powerful thing anyone of us can give to another. It is life changing Together we can change the world, one child at a time!

Hope House India - Angel House

In 2015, Hope House helped construct a new boarding school in Honduras called Plan Escalon. This facility is home to 600 orphans and economically at-risk junior high and high school students. Giving HOPE sent two teams to serve Plan Escalon.  The first team went to help in the   construction of both boys and girls dorms that were being built.  Our volunteers helped paint, hang doors, and build fences.  We heard some amazing stories of victory, learned some Spanish, and assisted students who went to serve in a mountain village.  The second team led the celebration of the new dorms completion and served in an additional mountain village.  Giving HOPE is continuing to invest in Plan Escalon by adding equipment to train the young men in basic auto mechanics.

Hope Against Trafficking

The Heart of Giving Hope is to be a bridge of Hope and Healing for hurting people.  The Giving Hope Retreat Center is a sanctuary for hurting people who are ready to rebuild their lives. We are so blessed to partner with the New Orleans Mission in this life-changing program. Through one of the movies that God led us to fund, Caged No More, we have come to understand that the need to help victims of human trafficking is extensive.

The Women’s Pavilion will provide 100 rooms for battered individuals, victims of Human Trafficking and formerly homeless women to heal from the wounds of life.  We believe the crime of sex slavery is the most heinous crime against an individual.  These women will receive Biblical discipleship, life skills education and vocational training.  Most of all, they will be treated with respect and honor and shown Christ-like love, so they know that they are valued.

The Giving Hope Retreat Center is positioned to help in this critically needed area throughout our region.  The presence of the Lord has created a peaceful atmosphere on this property that enables the guests to heal spiritually, physically and emotionally. We invite you to join us as we walk this journey to expand the facility. By expanding the retreat center facilities, we are better able to meet the need and minister to the women who are hurting and open the door for them to encounter the Love of Christ that changes everything. We believe that God has called Giving Hope to be a beacon of Light and Hope for families throughout our region, as they witness loved ones being restored through God’s Love and Grace!

Scared and Alone
There is an incredible lack of space for women in distress in our city. Each night women are left with no options for a safe environment. The “home” from which they came may only provide physical abuse. The life they wake up to is fraught with slavery with no hope of escape. Hope Against Trafficking is gathering community leaders to assist in creating an environment that will foster change in the lives of countless generations.

The Trafficking Victim’s Protection Act federally defines trafficking as “the exploitation of a person through the use of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of forced labor or commercial sex.” Here are some facts.

  • Human trafficking is the second largest in the international crime industry (behind illegal drugs).
  • Minimum profit human trafficking generates is $32 billion annually.
  • The average woman or girl can be sold over and over again for less than $100 each encounter.
  • 14 is the average age of a trafficked victim in the U.S.
  • Domestic Violence can take the form of Harassment, Physical Abuse, and Sexual Abuse.
  • 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime.

The New Orleans Mission, in partnership with Giving Hope, stands to pull these victims out of a life they were never meant to live and redirect them to a life of purpose and meaning. We will help homeless women begin to hope again, those who felt unworthy to feel valued, and those who was a slave to fear to live out the fullness of who God created them to be.  The number of safe places for these women to run to is limited, but with the new Women’s Pavilion, we will add a much needed resource to our region.

Giving Hope Women’s Pavilion

This new haven of Hope will provide bed space, training, and the love that thousands of women need each year. They will be safe and free from trafficking and abusive relationships. Hope will be built daily as we provide a source of dignity and purpose. There are very few programs designed specifically to help women in vocational training. Through our culinary program and Lovely Creations Boutique, we provide vision toward a new horizon. These women can rebuild what they feel is the tattered remnants of their self-worth and fulfill God’s purpose for their future.

What is a Hope Day?

A Hope Day is an opportunity for your business, religious organization, or civic group to volunteer at one of our outreaches. One example would be through our Food Pantry, where we provide over 700 meals a day to hungry and vulnerable seniors, children, and the homeless. Your employees or group members would meet at The Food Pantry to prepare, deliver, and serve the food. It’s a wonderful way to experience the joy of serving others.

What is the Schedule?

Hope Days are flexible, but a 10am-3pm schedule allows for a full experience. Typically 10-12 employees participate in a Hope Day together, but different-sized groups are accommodated. Dress is casual--arrive ready to roll up your sleeves and work! And feel free to wear shirts or caps with your corporate logo.

What are the benefits of a Hope Day?

Hope Days help us to recognize the dignity of those around us, by serving the most in need. Hope Day participants benefit by shifting their attention from the day-to-day concerns in their own lives to focusing on the needs of others. We have learned that by giving our time and attention to those in need, we realize a renewed sense of the dignity and value of every person.

Businesses who choose Giving Hope as charity of choice receive the full support of our staff, including:

  • A member of our team will come to your business to explain the mission of Giving HOPE.
  • We will schedule in services on respecting human dignity, and serving others.
  • Assistance with management training on servant leadership.
  • Print and electronic media advertising to help recruit employees!
