For the 2016 Nissan Altima, Nissan opted to give it a complete makeover. The 2016 Altima has a much more updated styling that makes it quite striking, slick, and roadworthy. In fact, the makeover was so comprehensive, the only thing the 2016 model shares with the 2015 model is the u-shaped grille that appears on other Nissan cars, SUVs and pickups. While the competition might be tough for the Altima with, its CVT has been one of the best with its simulated gear increments feel more like a conventional automatic, which most veteran drivers are accustomed to.
The 2016 Nissan Altima is offered in a S, SR, SV and SL trim. The SL will have two engine choices. The first option is the 2.5L four cylinder. This engine delivers 182-hp and 180 lb/ft of torque for EPA mileage estimates of 27 city, 39-highway mpg. Then you have the 3.5L V6. It will deliver 270-hp and 251 lb/ft of torque and CVT, but will only be offered with the SR and SL trim models.
The exterior of the Altima isn’t the only part that got the makeover. The interior received several upgrades in both material and design. A NASA inspired “Zero Gravity” perforated leather bucket seats are in the front. They provide exceptional comfort and are semi supportive. This means larger folks won’t feel so confined. The back seats are both soft and comfy. The back area has a decent amount of legroom and plenty of headroom. To top it off, the rear doors will open wide for easy in and easy out.
Nissan’s designers used a top of the line and modern trim design on their dash and console. The tan plastic overlays take on a feather appearance as opposed to the common wood grain design. This revision will provide a bright and eye-catching look.
The center console will have a 7-inch color touchscreen display for the rearview camera, Siri Eyes Free voice recognition, GPS nav with Google connectivity along with Nissan’s CONNECT infotainment system. Altima will also offer an Easy Fill Tire Alert system that will sound the horn and flash the headlights when tires hit their recommended pressures. No longer will you need measure the air pressure with a gauge.
The trunk is spacious. It comes with 15.5 cubic feet of space. It can hold two large roller bags or even a pair of golf bags when you flip the 60/40 rear seatbacks. Under the trunk floor is a space saver spare tire. This is a nice addition over the tire inflator kit that other carmakers are using instead of the spare.
The wheels on the Altima are 17 inches and come with Michelin tires. The starting base price of the SL is $28,570 and that will include some of the great features we mentioned like; heated front seats, steering wheel and outside mirrors, Bose 9-speaker sound system and more. When considering the Altima, you may want to take a look at Nissan’s Maxima as well. The Maxima is a bit larger and does have the V6 engine. However, the price is quite a jump from the Altima. However, the Maxima does offer more poshness, a sportier handling and more technology.
